A transparent LED film screen stuck to a shopping-mall window looks effortless from the street. Behind it sits an unforgiving engineering problem: if the film has to stay 30–50% transparent, every square millimetre of plastic blocks light, and every extra millimetre of package height pushes the film further off the glass. That is why these projects live or die on a single component — the RGB package.
The 1515 RGB SMD LED is the package most of those jobs end up specifying, and after quoting display and signage programmes for more than a decade, it is easy to see why.
Why The 1515 Format Keeps Winning
At 1.6 × 1.5 × 1.0 mm, the 1515 RGB SMD LED sits in the sweet spot where fine pitch is still manufacturable on standard SMT lines. A 5050 part forces a coarse pitch, so a film built from it reads as a dotted matrix from three metres away. A 1515 array at 2.5–4 mm pitch reads as a continuous image and still leaves most of the glass uncovered. Its 120° viewing angle matters just as much: the picture does not wash out as shoppers walk past at an angle, which is exactly the failure mode that makes cheap films feel amateur.

Three Rules Before You Specify It
Quick check for buyers: if a film supplier quotes a pitch smaller than 2.5 mm, ask which package is inside. If the answer is not a 1515-class RGB, the transparency number and the pitch number usually cannot both be true.
Where Display Makers Source This Package
Dongguan Lanjin Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. has been producing SMD LEDs, through-hole LEDs, LED displays and LED PCB assemblies since 2005, from a 2,500 m² anti-static workshop with ISO9001:2015 certification, two national invention patents and twelve utility model patents. For film-screen work the practical points are wavelength and intensity binning to the customer’s target, small sample reels for pilot builds, and LED PCB assembly on the same site — which shortens the loop between a colour complaint and a corrected reel.
Working on a transparent display or a fine-pitch signage panel? Send your target pitch, transparency percentage and colour temperature, and the sample reel can be matched to the design instead of the other way round.
